Currently resides as the owner and managing member of De La Vega HR Consulting, where Derek’s primary objective is to provide a full spectrum of Human Resources related services to small and medium sized companies across Texas. Derek currently maintains a client roster comprised of companies from various industries to include: Construction, Retail, Finance, Transportation, and Industrial. Additionally, Derek acts as an Independent Hearing Representative and represents companies such as Walmart, Fed-Ex, USAA, among many others across the nation, in Unemployment related Appeal Hearings.

Derek De La Vega Prior to beginning his private practice, Derek served as the Director of Human Resources for a Professional Employment Organization. His role was to support both internal and external clients in managing their business, by providing guidance, feedback, and practical business knowledge regarding current employment law, recent employment litigation, and best business practice guidelines. Derek used his extensive background in Operations and Human Resources to provide this valued and sought-after service.

Derek is very passionate about his role in Human Resources and enjoys most, the opportunity to share what he has learned with others, and to provide reassurance, support, and guidance to all members of each organization he serves. Derek is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), as well as the local chapter which is called the San Antonio Human Resources Management Association (SAHRMA).
Derek is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio (U.T.S.A.) where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. During his tenure at U.T.S.A. Derek earned Dean’s List Honors, was named to the National Honor Society, and earned the Alfred W. Negley Trust, Academic Scholarship. Derek began his career in operations as a Restaurant Manager, and Dining Services Director for both regionally based and nationally known Corporations. Derek was promoted, and transitioned into a dual-role as both a Dining Services Director and Human Resources Specialist in 2008. 

Derek earned his Professional Human Resources Certification (PHR) in 2009 and his Senior Professional Human Resources Certification (SPHR) in 2013. Derek has since acted as the Human Resources Director in both the Restaurant and Banking industries.
